Mobotix installs cameras to monitor Mount Everest

In 2011, the German camera manufacturer Mobotix just took its products "to the next level" with the installation of a camera system on the top of Kala Patthar mountain, in the Himalayas, to provide a view. clear view of the "roof of the world - Everest" at an altitude of 8,848 meters. Mobotix's camera codenamed M12 was installed at an altitude of 5,643 meters towards Mount Everest. Camera M12 broke the record for the world's tallest installed camera, which was previously held by another at the mountain campsite of Aconcagua, Argentina at 4,389 meters.

Powered by a solar panel, the MOBOTIX camera delivers high-quality images despite freezing temperatures, which can reach minus 30 degrees Celsius. Because the camera is powerful and versatile, it's ideal. for harsh environmental conditions. The installation was carried out by Italian engineers together with Nepal's Ev-K2-CNR team and coordinated by Giampietro Kohl, leader of the Ev-K2-CNR technical committee. “We spent many months developing the perfect setup for the installation and invested a lot of time testing and verifying the system. And that inspired us to set the record,” Kohl said. : operate the tallest camera in the world." The reason why the top of Kala Patthar was chosen is because from here the camera can cover the western part of Mount Everest well. The images obtained from the Camera will be transmitted to the Ev-K2-CNR Pyramid laboratory located at an altitude of 5,050 meters. Here, the videos provided by the camera will be analyzed before continuing to be sent to Italy for other research.

The researchers hope the images obtained from M12 will provide a better view of climate change. People sitting at home can see the image of Mount Everest recorded by M12 here. Camera M12 will only work from 6 am to 6 pm Nepal time (equivalent to 7:15 am to 7:15 pm Vietnam time). The images will be updated every five minutes so the researchers can track the movement of the clouds around the summit. Currently in 2023, the camera is still active, if you want to see the whole view of the highest mountain in the world, please see here
